Major Ian Bennett is the Fires and Effects Officer and the team’s Executive Officer which translates to “Jack of all trades and master of none”. His duties range from attempting to keep the team focused which he describes as “difficult as herding cats”, counting Iraqi Army personnel, personnel security for the boss, all the way to chief dog washer.
He was assigned to the MiTT world as penance for two years as an exchange artillery instructor to Canada and a year in Madrid, Spain, as an exchange student to Spain’s command and general staff school. He is commonly referred to the Iraqis as Abu Gaib, meaning Father of Nothing since he is one of the few remaining single officers in the United States Army with no children.
His likes include travelling, reading books with pictures, food and banging his head against the wall with the multitude of last minute taskings from higher headquarters. His dislikes include RPGs, the long wait for stir fry at the DFAC, and paperwork.
He routinely competes with “EJ” Dupont for title of chief procrastinator. He can often times be heard mumbling, “Aw heck, here we go again…” as he attempts to detangle himself from his seatbelt and chase after the boss as he chases after the Iraqi commander on the ground which usually results in some form of excitement.
He is eagerly looking forward to the establishment of a MiTT Branch and the 10 year reunion of the team somewhere in Iraq.
